Lately, a lot of people have been writing blogs and talking to me about how mean it seems everyone has become on various livejournal communities. I was thinking about it over the weekend, and this is what I think.
The internet gives people confidence they wouldn’t normally have
People who don’t go up and just talk to others, will feel empowered to talk to anyone online. Things that people would never say to your face, is easily said on gyaru secrets. The chances of you actually running into these people is slim, especially if you don’t plan to go to events. (Although I’ve met people in person who said things about me online, it’s kinda fun.)
This gives people the power to say exactly what they feel, even if it’s really rude.
I don’t respond to people who say rude things to me anymore, I feel like it feeds into my second reason, which I’d like to prevent.
Our culture enjoys making fun of others and drama
Gyaru Fucks has 603 members, and Gyaru Secrets has 314 members. The most comments on Everyday Gyaru occur when two people start fighting.
But outside of gyaru, there’s The Soup that airs every Friday, Big Brother and many other dramatic reality shows, and of course Maury and Jerry Springer. We love seeing people fight, we love seeing people worse off than ourselves.
These communities stick around because they are successful. They fulfill a need within the community whether we like it or not.
But the solution is not to leave, but instead to offer something different for those who don’t want the drama. Advice for the people who want it and completely ignoring those who start drama you don’t want to be part of. People will always make fun of others, but you don’t have to make it what gyaru is all about.
We take it all so personally
For some people, everything everyone says is a personal attack. Good advice is replied to with excuses. That’s kinda frustrating! (But keep in mind, SUGGESTIONS make a comment into advice. Don’t just say I suck, help me not suck.) Please, even if you don’t agree, they took time to help you, say thank you.
Also, about the circle drama. The world is a big place, there is room for many circles with many events. In my ideal world, there would be events all the time, where I could just party with my gals and guys once a month at least! No doubt, I’m really proud of the circle I’m in, but if other circles are successful, I’m happy!
Think of it this way, people saying bad things about you isn’t the same as bad things happening to you.
Why do you guys think our community has so much drama and negativity?

I pretty much agree with you. I think there are a LOT of keyboard warriors out there who wouldn’t dare say some of these things to people’s faces. I go by the rule of finding something nice to say or keeping my mouth shut. If I think someone jacked up their make, I offer alternative colour choices. For the most part, I don’t actively participate unless something catches my eye like WOW.
To many vaginas = too much drama
