About me

This blog isn't cute. I'm too old to be cute. I am however, gyaru, and I am opinionated. That, according to the standards of the internet, is enough to have a blog. I've been involved in western gyaru since '05, and I know everyone who is or was anyone in the western community. You wanna know secrets? I've got your secrets. Read more about me »

5 ways to meet other gals! :D

July 1st, 2009 by Coco received 1 Comment »

Most Westerners feel like they are really alone when they first become interested in gyaru. They see other people getting together and wonder why the world is so big. (Man, that sounds depressing already.)

But do not fear lonely one! If you are reading this, it means you have access to the internet! And now the world is small and everyone knows each other once again! :D

Let me steer you along by listing a few cool places to meet gals, online and in real life.

1 – Livejournal is a blogging site that also has a large amount of communities for various topics that people can post and reply in. Gal Style, Kogal Panel, and Everyday Gyaru are some of the most active and well moderated communities. (Ignore the fact that I co-mod the last one. Heh.) I really got into the style and met tons of cool people this way. Add people, comment on their stuff and blog about your own stuff.

Just don’t be boring, because I just skim over all that crap.

Kidding! (or am I? :o )

2 – Myspace – I actually hate myspace only because I’m an old woman and can’t handle 50 million things going on at once like most profiles have. I don’t like music or blinkie things or 20 quizzes that crash my browser. But rant aside, there are a lot of gals on myspace and although not many pages provide advice, they do provide friendship, and that was the point of this blog post. I recommend Go Go Gyaru for information and other coolness.

3 – Ricoche – the only long term successful gal forum, some of the posts can be very helpful. I’ve probably only made one friend through Ricoche, but I’ve chatted with some people from there, so I guess there’s hope for you too.

4 – Gal Circles – if you are committed to the style, gal circles are a great way to meet people and get involved in events. Here is a list of some homepages of various circles. Most circles are by application or invitation only, so you’ll have to pass a screening process to get in. I promise you it’s worth it!

5 – Events – I put this last because you will find out about events from these other mediums. GO TO EVENTS! Meeting gyaru in real life is seriously the greatest thing ever. People seem mean and elitist on the internet but I promise you, I get nothing but love when I hang out with people. It’s amazing! Save up all your money, work super hard, but GO! I would never have been invited to Bulaklak if I hadn’t met them all.

How have you guys met other gyaru?
